Day 11, Monday, Ballycastle

Apple Pay on my phone worked perfectly to pay the £2O0 bill for the Tara Hotel. It has worked most times in the UK and Ireland so far. Alternative is signing for everything, as we have had to do on previous trips. I hope it works in France too.

Today we started by taking the advice of a guy we talked to outside Botanic Station, and drove around Strangford Lough, ferried across at Portaferry. Great views.

Then back to Belfast and on to Carrickfergus,  near where my great great grandparents were married in 1853. Nice little town.

They were married at the  Templecorran Church, about 10km north east of  Carrickfergus. Not this one, but the 19th century one nearby.

On up the coast toward Ballycastle on the Causeway Coastal Drive. At this stop Scotland is visible on the horizon.

It had been hard to choose between these two B&Bs in Ballycastle, looking at Booking.com. Both had similar ratings, cost, location. It turned put that they were next door to each other, run by the same owner.

Later, I mentioned to the owner something about Ireland, then corrected it to Northern Ireland. He said it’s all one country. Try telling that to someone who flies a Union Jack in their front yard. The most recent bombing in Ballycastle was in 2002. It’s not one country.

We found “The Cellar” a few hundred yards from the B&B.
