Day 36, Friday, Annecy

We returned first thing to the Source du Lison, to see it in the morning light.

Mill race drew water from the pool.
Wheel was here. Undershot, by the look of it
Old millstone

The BnB proprietor said we should see the Gustav Courbet exhibition in the artist’s home town, Ornans, nearby. Ornans is the “Venice of the Jura”. We went there.

Google translate does a pretty good job of character recognition and translation.

Pressed for time, we were about to leave without looking at the temporary exhibition, but an attendant there convinced us to take a look. Works of artist Leon Frederic. I had never heard of him. It was great!  Much better than Courbet. No photography allowed.

The 200km drive from the Jura to Annecy is not straightforward. There is no obvious optimum route apart from a couple of options that skirt Geneva. I drove right through the centre of Geneva in 2013 thanks to a previous GPS, and I wasn’t about to go anywhere near there again. We could not trust Camille at all, so navigated using the trusty 2007 map atlas.

Hotel Catalpa, Annecy. Very good.
