Day 13, Thursday, Cortina D’Ampezzo

Our hotel, Albergo Castillo even had its own embossed crockery.
View across the road. Same road is blocked not far away, prevented us transiting the Gavia Pass.
Donny needed a Stelvio T shirt. Only place to buy them is Stelvio. We backtracked to Livigno and went via Switzerland to get around the road blockage on the SS38 near Bormio.

The name of this 2150m pass near Tschierv escapes me. It’s on the building.
Bliss. Coffee on the Umbrail Pass above Mustair, Switzerland. Alternative route to Stelvio because of a landslide on the SS38 near Bormio.
The cafe
Positive from our lost rainy day last Sunday. First snow of the winter makes the views breathtaking.
The other end of the blocked SS38 to Bormio.
Fifth visit to Italy this trip
Stelvio was crazy. People, cars, bikes, bicycles everywhere. The cyclists deserve free T shirts.

Making our bratwurst rolls with the lot
Three wise monkeys eating bratwurst at Stelvio.

At the bottom of Stelvio, on the Austrian side after 49 switchbacks (I counted them). Much better going down them than up, as I did 3 years ago. The guys in back are from Dundee, Scotland. The two Triumphs are perfect for this. Donny is very happy with his new BMW, visible here.

In the Dolomites now, en route to Cortina.

Another pass, I can’t read the name on the hotel on my iPhone.

Dinner in an Italian restaurant opposite to the Hotel Meuble Oasi. Cortina is much larger than I remember from last time, looked magnificant from above as we descended. No trouble at all finding rooms with 3 beds at short notice.
