  • Day 29, Monday, Dresden

    I had breakfast in a nice cafe, and decided to stay in Dresden another night. It’s warmer here than in Berlin, and I failed to learn before I came here that all the museums are closed on Monday.

    The hotel I was at did not have a room at the same rate, but another hotel in the same chain did. The new hotel is closer to the Frauenkirche and further from a construction site. The room is enormous. There’s a kitchen as well, which I won’t be using.

  • Day 28, Sunday, Dresden

    I went to the Neues Museum this morning, but struck a problem with the S-bahn. A temporary bus was running into Friedrichstrasse, which gave me a new view of Berlin.

  • Day 27, Saturday, Berlin

    I went to Museum Island to use a couple of  hours before I was due at the Reichstag. Several columns here have been replaced. I suspect the original columns bear WW2 bullet scars. (more…)

  • Day 26, Friday, Berlin

    I want to see the Reichstag Dome while I am in Berlin. So does everyone else, and online bookings were all taken two weeks ahead. www.bundestag.de mentioned that you can attend an office on Scheidemannstrasse, near the Reichstag, and apply for one of the places they reserve for slackers like me. Sure, which day would you like? I selected Saturday 1:30pm.
