  • Day 11, Monday, Ballycastle

    Apple Pay on my phone worked perfectly to pay the £2O0 bill for the Tara Hotel. It has worked most times in the UK and Ireland so far. Alternative is signing for everything, as we have had to do on previous trips. I hope it works in France too.

    Today we started by taking the advice of a guy we talked to outside Botanic Station, and drove around Strangford Lough, ferried across at Portaferry. Great views. (more…)

  • Day 10, Sunday, Belfast

    The Tara is one of the very best hotels I’ve stayed in anywhere. Purpose built as a hotel, so well laid out with elevator next to reception, and breakfast room nearby. Brekky was truly excellent. (more…)

  • Day 09, Saturday, Belfast

    The airport bus stopped a few metres along Upper Leeson Road from the hotel and had us at the airport shortly after 9am. We found the Enterprise rental desk and after 20 minutes in the queue, and another bus trip we had the keys to an Opel Mokka. I think it’s the SUV equivalent of an Astra. At least it’s a 4 cylinder car. I had declined the GPS, then changed my mind and paid the extra €10 per day for it, then realised we could have just used Google maps on the phone to navigate. We set off up the M1 towards Newgrange.

  • Day 08, Friday, Dublin

    The wifi here at the Leeson Bridge is stellar, and it’s easy to add photos, probably too many photos. It’s quiet too, as long as the windows facing the back lane are closed. We thought €12 per person was a bit steep for breakfast, and went in search of a cafe.
